The Bushfire Management Overlay Other Buildings applies to various building types other than residential dwellings, commercial developments or subdivisions. These developments, categorised as ‘Other Buildings’, include:
- Schools and Child Care Centres in the BMO
- Accommodation in the BMO
- Community Infrastructure, Hospitals and Places of Assembly in the BMO
- Leisure, Recreation and Sporting Facilities in the BMO
Separate requirements apply to these types of developments under the Bushfire Management Overlay Other Buildings regulations, such as increased defendable space distances around developments. These heightened requirements ensure a higher level of protection for patrons of these facilities.
There is generally significant additional liaison required with fire agencies and/or local government to find a solution and integrate into relevant emergency management plans, municipal fire management plans, and other agency plans. It is recommended that developments of these types complement their Bushfire Management Statement with a Bushfire Emergency Management Plan.
