Bushfire Prone Area Mapping Changes

Changes to the Bushfire Prone Areas have been implemented this week. The changes were announced last year, but were gazetted last week and the maps were updated this week.

The Department of Transport, Planning and Local Infrastructure has detailed that more than 7,500 properties have been removed from the Bushfire Prone Area mapping. The mapping changes also resulted in the inclusion of 133 lots.

The most affected areas include:

  • Greater Geelong (1,652 lots)
  • Bass Coast (805 lots)
  • Hume (688 lots)
  • Casey (458 lots)
  • Greater Shepparton (412 lots)
  • Cardinia (411 lots)
  • Latrobe (354 lots)
  • Mitchell (320 lots)
  • Melton (318 lots)
  • Ballarat (315 lots)

The Bushfire Prone Area covers moderate bushfire risk areas, and necessitates a Bushfire Attack Level Report. This is separate to Bushfire Management Overlay changes that were announced recently.
